Frequently Asked Questions

01.

We are not in-network with any insurance companies. This allows us to tailor treatment specifically to your needs without mandates from insurance companies. We are an "insurance-friendly" practice in that we can provide documentation for you to submit to your insurance company for full or partial reimbursement through your out-of-network benefits. Here are questions to ask of your insurance company:

  • What are my out-of-network benefits for mental health?

  • Do I have a deductible?

  • What percentage of fees are covered?

02.

As of December 2021 we are offering in-person sessions on a limited basis. Kindred Therapy is a hybrid practice, which means some clients are seen in-person in Philadelphia and some online throughout PA or NJ using a secure platform. If we move forward, we can decide together if telehealth, in-person, or a combination makes the most sense for our work together.

03.

Clients come to therapy at differing frequencies depending on their needs. Starting therapy with weekly sessions is often preferable due to the importance of developing a relationship with your therapist and determining whether the relationship is a good fit. Clients also tend to experience faster results with weekly sessions. Biweekly sessions can be discussed with your therapist as a way to maintain progress, or for logistical reasons as needed.

Do you offer sliding scale?

Our sliding scale aims to increase access to therapy for marginalized folks. There are a limited number of sliding scale slots available for queer, trans/gender expansive, and BIPOC clients. Our fee scale ranges from $85 to $135 for a 45-min session. During your initial consultation you will be discussing what you can afford to invest in therapy. Your therapist can help facilitate conversation around what will be financially sustainable for you while also balancing their needs and valuing their time and commitment to your healing.  Here are a few things to consider when selecting your fee on our scale. Please don’t hesitate to ask questions.

Consider paying on the higher end of the scale if you:

Travel recreationally

Work part time by choice

Can afford to take unpaid time off

Regularly eat out, buy new clothes, & attend recreational events

Own the home you live in

Have investments, retirement accounts, or inherited money

Own a car

Have access to family money & resources

Consider paying on the lower end of the scale if you:

Are not always able to meet basic needs

Rarely buy new items because you are unable to afford them

Support children, family, or other dependents

Have been denied work due to incarceration history

Have faced employment discrimination

Are an unpaid community organizer

Make less than 18,000 per year (not by choice)

If you can afford to pay the full fee, please do so in order to support increased access to mental health services for queer, trans and BIPOC folks. Please reach out if you would like to sponsor access to therapy for a QTBIPOC person.
